Woosong University Kazakhstan: A Symbol of Strategic Partnership and International Recognition

The opening of Woosong University Kazakhstan marks an important milestone in the strategic educational partnership between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea. On September 25, 2025, in the city of Turkistan, the international branch of one of South Korea’s leading higher education institutions, Woosong University, officially commenced its operations.

As part of this landmark initiative, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, received the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Woosong Education Foundation, Chairman Kim Sung Kyung. The Head of State expressed his appreciation for Chairman Kim’s contribution to the establishment of a Woosong University branch in Turkistan that fully meets international educational standards and emphasized the strategic importance of this project for Kazakhstan.

President Tokayev highlighted that the opening of Woosong University Kazakhstan is not only significant for the development of higher education, but also plays a special role in strengthening cultural, scientific, and intellectual ties between the peoples of Kazakhstan and South Korea. During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues related to human capital development, improving the quality of education, and training highly qualified specialists in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

In recognition of his significant personal contribution to strengthening friendly relations and educational cooperation between Kazakhstan and South Korea, Mr. Kim Song Kyung was awarded the Order of Dostyk (Fellowship), Second Degree, one of the highest state honors of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This award reflects the high level of trust and appreciation for Woosong University’s activities in Kazakhstan. The award was presented by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek.

Furthermore, on October 31, 2025, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed the Strategic Partners Forum “Kazakhstan – A Territory of Academic Education”, where he emphasized the importance of cooperation with leading international universities, including Woosong University, in positioning Kazakhstan as a regional and global educational hub.
