Q&A

  • What majors are offered, and how many students are admitted?
    • Woosong University Kazakh Campus is currently specialized in the field of practice-oriented artificial intelligence (AI) and data science (Data Science)
    • In 2026, a total of 200 students will be admitted.
    • During the first and second years, all students complete a common curriculum designed to build foundational knowledge and programming skills.
Upon advancement to the third year, students choose one major: Artificial Intelligence or Data Science.

Minor Program: Students are also required to select a minor linked to various industry sectors, which helps them better prepare for real-world jobs.

  • How are students selected?

The admission process consists of the following three main stages

    • Applicants must meet a basic English proficiency requirement.
    • Applicants must submit high school academic records and National Unified Test (UNT) scores, which account for approximately 70% of the total evaluation.
    • Applicants must participate in an individual interview conducted in English, which accounts for the remaining 30%.

Special Admission Track: Applicants with an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher may be admitted based solely on the English interview without UNT scores, although submission of basic required documents is still mandatory.

  • What if I do not have a UNT score?

Even without a UNT score, admission is possible if your English proficiency is sufficiently high. However, please note that submission of a UNT score report is mandatory when applying for national (government) scholarships.

  • Why is English proficiency required?

The most important reason is that all courses are taught in English, making English proficiency essential for academic success.
In addition, after graduation, English serves as a key tool for collaborating with professionals from around the world in the fields of AI and Data Science.

  • An IELTS score of 5.0 or higher is required. Are there alternative options?

Yes, there are alternatives. In addition to IELTS, applicants may submit scores from other recognized English proficiency tests.

    • Recognized tests include: TOEFL, Duolingo, TEPS, TOEIC, and others.
The full list is available at: http://wsuk.edu.kz/sub06/01.php
    • Another option: If an applicant has an excellent UNT score (top 15%), they may be admitted based only on the English interview, even without an English test score.
  • Is an intensive English program offered?

Yes. All first-year students are required to complete a 225-hour intensive English program called A-IEP (Active Intensive English Program) during their first semester.
Since this program is accompanied by a major course, the first semester requires a lot of study time.

Semesters typically begin on September 1 and March 1.

  • If I transfer to Korea after completing my second year, can I find employment in Korea?

Yes, absolutely. Each year, more than 100 international students enroll in the AI and Data Science programs at Woosong University’s Korea campus, and over 50% of them find employment in Korea after graduation.

  • Is Korean language education provided?

Starting from the second year, Korean language courses are planned to be offered as extracurricular elective programs.
This will be an especially valuable opportunity for students planning to continue their third year of study in Korea.

However, having a strong background in mathematics can be helpful and beneficial for your studies after admission.

  • What career fields are available after graduation?

Skills in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science are required across all industries.
During their studies, students participate in four industry-linked projects in collaboration with sectors such as manufacturing, banking, distribution, and automotive industries.
This demonstrates the high versatility and demand of these majors and allows graduates to freely choose their preferred industry after graduation.

  • I am currently enrolled at another university. If I withdraw and transfer here, what conditions apply?

If your current major is different, you must start from the first year.
If your major is similar, some courses may be recognized through curriculum comparison; however, the maximum credit recognition period is limited to six months.

  • Is it mandatory to go to Korea after two years to study in Korea?

No, it is not mandatory to go to Korea after two years.
If a student chooses to complete all four years of study in Kazakhstan, there is no requirement to travel to Korea. In this case, the student will receive only a Kazakhstan degree, not a dual degree.
However, even in this option, students may choose to participate in a study program in Korea for one semester or up to one year, if they wish.

  • If I study in Korea, what happens to the government scholarship I receive?

If the study period in Korea is one semester or less, WSUK will use the government scholarship to pay the tuition on the student’s behalf. However, tuition in Korea must be paid in full in a single payment, and due to differences in tuition fees, students may be required to cover part of the cost themselves.
However, if a student studies in Korea continuously for one year or longer, the tuition is generally the student’s personal responsibility, although this policy may change depending on government regulations.
